MyVegan Gooey Filled Cookie Review
I am going to try to put together a comprehensive review for you that will cover the taste, texture and value for your money with some quick tips how to get a discount on these 🙂
They come as a whole box of 12 amazing cookies in two flavours:
- Double Chocolate & Caramel
- Double Chocolate & Peanut Butter

- Energy: 248 kcal
- Carbohydrates: 37g
- Protein: 13g
- Fat: 8.1g
- Fibre: 4.6g
So let’s have a look at these stats.
You might notice that these cookies are quite high in sugar but that’s exactly what we want and I will explain that shortly.
It might not be amazingly high in protein compared to a protein shake, which would ideally have twice as much, but 13g of protein per piece is pretty decent.
The reason why these are amazing as a post-workout bite is that when we exercise, we use carbohydrates as a primary fuel for our bodies so, logically, we have to replenish these stores after. Sports Nutrition suggest that you take a 1g of carbohydrates per kg of body weight straight after exercise. In other words, If your weight is 70kg, you should eat 70g of carbohydrates within 30 mins after you finish session. With 37g, this cookie cannot deliver the whole amount but It can significantly help with recovery and you can always top your carbs up when you get home from the gym.
Great snacks to compliment this awesome cookie are:
- Glass of semi-skimmed milk – cca 15g of carbs (milk and cookies, who would resist that?)
- Banana – cca 23g (perfect post workout snack)
- Strawberries (any other berries for that matter) – cca 16g in 50g
So, at a first glance, these bad boys looked like a high sugar snack that everyone is trying to tell you to stay away from if you want to lose weight but you cannot avoid carbohydrates if you exercise. This would be highly counterproductive. It’s definitely good to keep an eye on the overall sugar intake because It is true that we consume way too much of it and don’t move as much as we should.
Here are some tips If you want to decrease sugar in your diet but you are active and want to use these “pick me up” snacks during the day when your energy is low or as a replenishment after exercise:
- Don’t add sugar in your tea/coffee (think about how much extra sugar are you consuming in every cup)
- Have a salad with your meal rather than a huge portion of potatoes or rice
- Switch to wholegrain bread
- Limit takeaway coffees (latte, mochaccino, frappe etc)
- Read labels – you will be surprised how many products have added sugar – baked beans to name a popular one
The amount of fibre is not so bad either. And if you combine the cookie with an apple or a banana you already consumed 1/5 of your daily fibre recommended intake (30g).
This cookie is, however, not very low in fat. In order for food to be able to claim that it’s low fat, less than 30% of its calories can come from fat so for example, something that has 100g can only have 3g of fat to be classed as “low fat”. The brand doesn’t claim this product to be low fat though but I thought it would be good to mention if some of you are watching fat intake.
How about the taste?
One of the best store bought cookies out there and If you are a vegan, congratulations, they are perfect for you.
They are the best if you heat them up in a microwave for 10-15 seconds (don’t quote me, I suggest trying it out in your own microwave first). I don’t own one so I either use one at work or just pop it in the oven. The chocolate part becomes exceptionally soft and the center becomes liquid caramel/peanut butter, depending on which flavour you choose.
I do eat them raw sometimes, I don’t mind. They are not very gooey but soft enough not to break your teeth 🙂 The caramel center is however a little gritty when tough but it doesn’t bother me at all.
